Never Throw In The Towel

I read a story the other day that really struck me. A husband and wife were having a serious conversation about the present economy. Damon King, an engineer, had worked for prominent engineering firm for 16 years and had earned a comfortable six figure yearly income. Daphnie, his wife, had been privileged to be a stay at home mom and home manager until one day, without warning, Damon received the pink slip. Damon and Daphnie were accustomed to living in a spacious home in an upscale neighborhood. They traveled with their children three times a year outside the country, were politically and community active and had adequate savings for those retirement years Life seemed pretty swell! But in 2008, Damon lost his job due to corporate reorganization and also discovered that the benefits package he had secured had been swindled away by unscrupulous brokers and advisors. He was not alone. Many of his co-workers, neighbors and friends near and far were experiencing similar circumstances. To make a long story short, the Kings lost their comfortable lifestyle and had quickly fallen into a deep state of depression. Thank goodness for inspiration! One night Daphnie awakened out of her sleep and was too restless to return to dream land. As thoughts raced in her mind about their financial woes, Daphnie suddenly remembered a story about several mountain climbers who lost two fellow comrades on their journey up. Death also threatened yet a third member and possibly more if they did not descend to a safe altitude soon. The air was extremely thin and temperatures were ranging between 25 and 40 degrees below zero not including the wind chill factor. The entire crew suffered frost bite and certain parts of their bodies were straight up numb. Nightfall was approaching and judging by appearances, there was no hope. Daybreak arrived and to everyones surprise, all had survived the worst nightmare of their lives. In the days afterward, theses brave women and men received world recognition and were all offered opportunities for a better life opportunities they had only dreamed of. What determined their triumph? It was their will to live. And just like the surviving mountain climbers and the Kings, many are going through it and are threatened with the lose of everything. The only thing that is promised and sure to occur is change. Status, stability, and lifestyle are as shifting sand. But when you practice principles built on solid rock, the sand can be used to make cement for a more solid foundation. Daphnie shared with her husband the story she remembered and they, together, decided to never throw in the towel for if they were able to create a wonderful life once, they could do it again. The story ends with Daphnie and Damon starting a home based business they are passionate about. Now, their new life and lifestyle has potential far beyond anything they ever imagined.
