Never to old for sexy costume funThe invitation arrived in Katie's mail today, she had waited all year for it. It was an invitation to the 5th Annual Midnight Summer Costume Ball. This year it would be held at the local High School gym. Katie was so excited. Although she was 28 and had outgrown dressing up for Halloween a long time ago, getting dressed up for a Costume Ball was something entirely different. Besides, when Katie was younger, she always insisted when playing with her sisters or friends that they play dress up.
Although she was invited to the 4th Annual Ball last year, she was out of town that weekend and was unable to make it. But for 3 to 4 months after the Ball, Katie's friends were relentless about what a good time it was. She heard over and over again, how special it was, how magical it was and the one thought she hadn't stopped thinking about all year, was what her friend Derek had said, "I can't believe how sexy everyone looked".
Katie's immediate reaction to that was that everyone used the costume ball to dress sleezy, but when she saw the pictures, that wasn't the case at all. The costumes, both the women's and the men's, looked great. They were well done, classy, and yes, sexy. It was obvious that everyone had taken their time to find the perfect adult costume for the event. The costumes were fun, playful, and knowing some of the people in the pictures Katie knew that the costumes chosen fit some of their personalities just perfect.
Katie's costume was going to be a surprise for all of her friends. She couldn't wait to be able to dress up and pretend she was someone else for the evening, to play the part that her costume inspired her to play. For a small moment in time, she would be able to live out her fantasy of fame and glamour while all of her friends lived out their own fantasies. She may be an adult, but putting a mask on helped her feel like she did when she was a child and dressed up on Halloween as a ballerina or a fairy princess, the magic of the costume made her feel like the world's greatest ballerina or the world's prettiest fairy princess.
Katie wasn't interested in being the envy of all of the other party goers, nor did she care to win the best costume prize, to her the entire event was about having fun, an excitement she hadn't felt since she was a kid. She hoped there would be many more annual costume balls to come, so that she could act like a kid one time a year with the help of some adult costume fun.
