Currently, Facebook has over 570 million active users. The site has doubled its users since 2009 and appears to be pushing similar social networking sites aside. Like one large social experiment, Facebook is making up the rules as it goes along and configuring its algorithms to parameters.

Networking sites are limited by nature, but they are effective. They are not content distribution portals, like a blog or article listing, nor are they web directories. When it comes down to it, social networking websites are the true definition of their label, "social networking websites".

But that's all going to change shortly. Facebook has recently announced that they are going to be making an internet listing/ directories, similar to that of Google. There are also talks of launching a Facebook e-mail service like Google has with their Gmail service.

One of the recent developments that Facebook offered is Facebook messaging service that let users to communicate with each other on mobile, irrespective of whether or not they are using online chat services or mail services. Why has Facebook become so famous? One of the reasons is the streamlined user interface. There is small customization that can be made to the profile pages and small clutter to distract the user from what they are can do. People are there to connect and network with their friends, keep up with their favorite products and even meet new people in professional groups.

Social networking websites have grown out of their juvenile image, to full business networking. But why & how plenty of business owners comprehend that their businesses success is determined by their networking ability. Business owners also know that success is less about obtaining a college degree & more about connecting.

From large brands & local stores, it seems everyone can be found on Facebook. Take for example an interior decorator. (I actually saw this on Facebook) This local interior decorating company had over 5000 fan of their business page. What does this mean for the interior decorator? It means that the interior decorator does not require paying money for mailing their clients their coupons & specials like they had to do historically.

Not only does Facebook let you keep up with a potential customer base, but it also lets you build your client base and customer support. Friends of friends will also see the material that you send your following.

You will start seeing results over time, you have to keep it up & be definite to tell all of your clients about your new Facebook page. Lots of businesses even go as far as placing their Facebook pages link on their invoices.

It doesn't means that Facebook is all end of solution to your businesses promotion, but for some businesses it could be. Facebook also works very well to get traffic to other content that you have on the net, which will, in turn, help boost your sites rankings in the search engines.
