Having his irons custom bent one degree weaker than standard and adding an AP2 3-iron to his set, in place of a 19-degree Titleist 910F, Watney made 12 birdies and one eagle over the final 36 holes.

Also playing the Titlesist Pro V1x ball was third-placed Anders Hanson and sixth-placed Ricky Fowler and Rory McIlroy, while Adam Scott used the taylorMade r11 driver to tie Hansen.

In a word, it's a look that will provide a "wow" factor for some golfers, but one that, according to the company, also serves a purpose.
