New Beginnings: How to Start the Day Over
New Beginnings: How to Start the Day Over
How often do you start that new day full of positivity, and good intention - only for something unexpected to happen and for your good, positive, day to be thrown into turmoil?
Amazing isn't it how all those good intentions and that positive attitude can be swept aside by one (often very minor) hiccup, and how that one hiccup can ruin your day?
It doesn't have to be that way.
The reason this happens, other than we seem predisposed to negativity a lot of the time, is that people tend to make one basic assumption, that isn't true. That assumption: that the day can only start when you get up.
This then leads to a second, incorrect assumption, that once it's all gone wrong, that's it for the rest of the day.
I'm going to challenge those assumptions and put forward the idea (it's not new) that you can actually start your day as many times as you wish, and at any point. What's more, each time, you can renew your good intentions, and your positive attitude.
Here's how it works.
Starting again (and again, and again)
You set your intentions the night before. You decide that tomorrow will be a good day and that you will have a positive attitude, that you will enjoy every opportunity, that you will be happy. You go to sleep. The dawn breaks and the new day begins. So you:
Wake up and get up - filled with good intentions and a positive attitude.
Start your day - and all goes well.
Then the first unexpected hiccup occurs.
At this pointyou have a choice:
a) Let the hiccup affect you, and ruin your day;
b) Accept that hiccups happen, adjust your plans accordingly, decide to start your day again (with the same great attitude)
Of course, which one you choose is completely up to you. However, by choosing option b) you can put your day back on track. The beauty of this is that it is repeatable i.e. you can do it over and over again. This may seem tedious at first, but what it actually does is build resilience within you. As you practice this technique you'll find that the hiccups affect you less and that you are able to maintain your positive attitude, even when all around you is in chaos.
It's that simple. You can start the day, at any point and at any time, over and over. It's your day, it's your attitude, it's your choice.
