New Media Jobs Appointments Announced

May has been a busy month for new media jobs as two high profile appointments were announced by major companies.

It was revealed that Matt Shreeve has been selected to fill the new role of UK commercial director at Active International while Jonathan Webb will be the new executive director of Virgin Media Television (VMTV).

Matt Shreeve, the former head of agency sales at Channel 4, has been employed to work with Active International's clients, media agencies and media owners in order to develop business opportunities.

Furthermore, Shreve will have the responsibility of working with the existing management team at Active International to improve the company's standing in the United Kingdom.

UK managing director of Active International Dean Wilson said: "It is a complete testament to the changed face of the corporate trade industry that Active is able to attract someone of the talent and experience of Matt Shreeve.

"Shreeve brings great leadership, energy and negotiating skills to our organisation and everyone is looking forward to Matt bringing his enthusiasm and talent to our business as we continue to grow."

Matt Shreeve had initially planned to create his own consultancy firm after spending 18 years with Channel 4 but decided against it after receiving the new media jobs offer from Active International.

Management consultants Boston Consulting Group are working with Channel 4 sales director Andy Barnes to conduct a review of the broadcaster's sales team, according to Brand Republic.

Jonathan Webb was appointed to the new position following the departure of chief executive Malcolm Wall in March.

Webb has been promoted from his previous position of managing director of VMTV and has also been given the task to manage the ad sales house IDS.

Chief executive of Virgin Media Neil Berkett said that he though Webb's appointment would strengthen the Virgin brand in the foreseeable future.

"I'm delighted that Jonathan has agreed to take on this new challenge. In recent years, Living, Bravo, Virgin1 and Challenge have established themselves as the strongest brands in multichannel television and, under Jonathan's leadership, I'm confident that they can become stronger still," he said.

Webb said: "VMTV's brands have already hit creative and ratings heights this year, and we're using that performance to deliver value for our advertisers, our programme suppliers and our platform partners.

"I'm looking forward to focusing the business on our vision of brilliant brands, delivered on every kind of screen."

Media Week reports that Webb is unlikely to be responsible for the VMTV's joint venture with BBC Worldwide.
