New Orleans Progress Of The Restoration Projects In Louisiana
New Orleans faced the wrath of Natures fury in August 2005 when it bore the brunt
of Hurricane Katrina, with Hurricane Rita brushing past one month later. Katrina was the costliest natural disaster in American history, with property damage estimated at $81 billion. As many as 1,836 people lost their lives, the maximum number of casualties in almost eight decades, while 800,000 were displaced, the greatest such displacement since massive dust storms ravaged the countryside in the 1930s.
However, with the assist of federal agencies, the state management and numerous voluntary organizations, reconstruction started pretty ahead of time and New Orleans is currently okay on its manner towards emerging a stronger and lovelier city than at any time earlier.

Restoration, and the consequent revert of evacuees, has been invariable and gradual. Although the optimism of a complete repopulation has not been met, neither has the hopeless point of view of New Orleans befitting a "ghost town". Legions of workers have poured in to satisfy the demands of the reconstruction and rehabilitation companies.
Hundreds of houses beyond salvage have been demolished while a few thousands have been repaired, with families taking safety in undamaged upper storeys while the lower ones are being rebuilt. Some organizations, like the state-wide Louisiana Disaster Relief Foundation or the neighborhood-based United Saints Recovery Project are still working to purvey help to homeowners in rebuilding their homes. Habitat for Humanity and Build Now are two more voluntary organizations active in restoration duty.
The federal government has a program in position to support homeowners not sole in New Orleans, but throughout the state of Louisiana. The Road Home program helps Louisiana residents get back into their homes or apartments as speedily and sufficiently as possible. The program has been touted the largest single housing betterment program in US history.
Through The Road Home, eligible homeowners affected by Hurricane Rita or Katrina may receive up to $150,000 in compensation for incurred losses to acquire them back into their homes.
