New Orleans Saints Tickets - Saints Bring Support To Oil Spill Areas

Perhaps the most touching backstory of last season's NFL championship was the New Orleans Saints' connection with their hurricane-ravaged city

. As the team got better, season by season, the city recovered. Many of the players got their hands dirty helping the city bounce back from Hurricane Katrina, and the residents of New Orleans responded by making Saints fans some of the most passionate in the sport. The excitement gave them momentum going into the 2010 Super Bowl, and they were able to come home with the Lombardi trophy.

The team's spirit of giving back isn't over now that they have won their championship, evidenced by their actions in the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Instead of having lunch at the governor's mansion on June 8 as planned, the team instead decided to go to Plaquemines Parish to spend time with those affected by the spill in the region, along with Gov. Bobby Jindal. The team even brought along the Vince Lombardi trophy to lift spirits there.

Even before the visit, the New Orleans Saints were already thinking about the trip. According to the Associated Press, coach Sean Payton said, "I think the idea of switching gears and having that lunch down there is appropriate. I know the players - all of us - are looking forward to being down there and spending some time with those people that are going through so much." Some of the residents most affected by the spill have been local fishermen.

Tight end Jeremy Shockey is one of the players who voiced his concern for those affected by the spill, but he has also been in the news for other reasons. On May 27th, Shockey was taken from the team's weight room to the hospital because of a mild seizure. Fortunately, it seems to be a case of dehydration rather than something more serious and Shockey is bouncing back nicely. Fans can see him by getting New Orleans Saints tickets online today.

Shockey wasn't the only Saints player to cause a media storm recently, but Saints free safety Darren Sharper is probably getting a laugh out of his headlines. Sharper had a twitter fight with Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, which ended in a truce. The two were in a heated exchange for days, but both have reiterated there wasn't truly any bad blood between them. Sharper has more important concerns like rehabilitating his left knee, which he had surgery on earlier in the offseason. His rehabilitation led to the Saints switching Malcolm Jenkins from cornerback to free safety for insurance, according to NFL online.

The team could also have a new backup quarterback, because they recently had Greg Paulus try out. Sports fans may recognize the name, as Paulus was a standout basketball point guard for Duke. He spent last season playing quarterback at Syracuse, but he wasn't drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft. The team hasn't extended him a contract yet, but he has reportedly been invited back for another tryout. The team is looking for another backup for star quarterback Drew Brees.
