New Spray Replaces Cell Phone Antennas

Do you have trouble getting cell phone reception in your area

? That can be very frustrating! Especially when you are paying a monthly bill. Luckily technology is here to save the day. There is now a spray-on antenna that may help your reception. Demonstrated at Googles Solve for X conference, a Utah start-up company, Chamtech Enterprises, has developed a Spray-On Antenna Kit that claims to increase your cell phone reception by 10%. The spray essentially covers a surface with thousands of nanocapacitors. The nanocapacitors then align together to create a wireless antenna for wireless devices. The company claims the spray could be used on a variety of surfaces like walls, trees, clothing and even underwear. (What kind of signal would you be sending from your shorts?)

Does it work? According to an article posted on Mashable, Physorg reports that the company has conducted a number of tests, including one where they were able to send a VHF signal up to 14 miles away using only a tree that had been sprayed. I can see this technology would have many practical applications (no pun intended). You could spray it on your cell phone directly to boost the signal, spray on the building or home where you have poor reception, or even spray it on the top of your car for a mobile antenna. According to an article posted by Gizmag, The company ultimately sees the technology replacing some traditional antennas, eliminating the need for some of the often unsightly towers we use today. Initial tests have the spray-on technology often providing even better signal results than those traditional antennas, often making the spray-on option dramatically more efficient. Unless this technology boosts the signal more than 10%, I dont see this spray-on antenna replacing cell towers any time soon.

I love new technology, dont you? Microsoft and Google are well known for supporting new technology. Microsoft actually gave a grant to someone for developing a way to charge your cell phone using dirt. AS we move into the future, technology will obviously play a big part in the ecology of our planet. I give kudos to all those inventors and also to the companies supporting them.
