New Student Accommodation To Be Built In Manchester
Those likely to be seeking student accommodation in the Manchester area in a couple
of year's time may welcome news that a developer has been granted permission to construct new dwellings for undergraduates.
Student Castle is to build a 33-storey block of flats in the north-west city.
Due to be completed sometime in 2012, the project will help meet the demand for student homes in the area.
In total, it will house 520 bedsits that will feature communal accommodation.
The development will be located in Great Marlborough Street.
Commenting on his firm's success at winning approval for the scheme, Student Castle's Edward Cade said: "We are delighted to have been awarded planning permission for this landmark scheme in Manchester.
"As a new, expert developer within the sector we are pleased to have this opportunity to make a positive contribution to the regional economy and higher education sector in one of the UK's most vibrant cities."
He added that his organisation is committed to changing the perception of traditional private rented student accommodation by delivering high-quality, affordable homes.
The demand for living quarters among students in Manchester is high because of the number of educational institutions based in the city.
These include the University of Manchester, Manchester College of Arts and Technology and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Many of those entering their first year in further or higher education will be keen to get cheap accommodation in order to help them cope with the financial burden of studying.
This may a particularly prominent issue at present, as parents who have been affected by the ongoing economic problems in the UK and many other parts of the world may be unable to provide as much monetary assistance as they would have liked to.
And while the country may be returning to economic growth, there are fears that government spending reductions may see consumers experience further problems over coming months.
