New York Weight Loss Centers Reduce Obesity-Related Health Risks
Recent research suggests that weight loss surgery can produce not only long-term weight loss but also much lower risks for cardiac and other health problems commonly experienced by morbidly obese adults. This statement was published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, and is the first such report by the American Heart Association (AHA) focusing strictly on bariatric surgery and heart disease risk factors. For years, bariatric surgeons and weight loss doctors in New York have been helping patients lower their risk of heart problems and improving their overall health.
The statement-writing committee at the AHA observed that patients at surgical weight loss centers experienced improvements in various ailments after their procedures. These conditions can include high cholesterol, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, cardiovascular dysfunction and type-2 diabetes. In the case of type-2 diabetes, some patients experienced relief of symptoms in a surprisingly short amount of time. There have also been studies that suggest weight loss surgery can increase the lifespans of obese individuals.
There are many different procedures which fall under the category of bariatric surgery. The three major methods are gastric bypass, gastric banding and gastric sleeve. Both the gastric bypass and gastric sleeve involve reducing the size of the stomach and creating a small pouch. The gastric band surgery requires the installation of a band around the top of the stomach. While there are significant differences between each technique, they all function by restricting the intake of food and/or limiting the absorption of food as it passes through the digestive tract.
Those who suffer from obesity-related illnesses may wish to consider bariatric surgery. While minimally invasive weight loss surgery is a relatively safe procedure, any potential patient should be fully informed of the benefits and possible risks. Some surgical weight loss clinics in New York offer free information seminars at where one can learn the details about each type of surgery and have any questions or concerns addressed.
