New to Websites, But Want To Create Your Own?
How To Get Yourself Up and Running With A Website.
Hi
When people want to get a website, frequently they go to a web designer and discuss the details, which costs some.
Have you thought about doing it yourself?
Here's a quick precis of what you can do to get yourself up and running fairly quickly (3-4 weeks). No this does not involve a free website builder. With this technique, you will learn as you go.. OK so here we go.
Look at websites online and choose a website that you find appealing and appropriate for your niche or topic (easiest way to do this, do a Google search in your chosen area - for example - tree surgeon - so check the competition and associated sites)
Once you have found several websites, find one that is particularly appealing, then right click on the home page and copy the website source code. (I appreciate that this may not be very popular, but what you are going to do, is use it to learn how a website is put together). Do this for several sites (keep them in separate folders).
Once you have a website source, look through it and identify the parts (particularly the text areas initially). Copy the source to another folder (this will be your work folder). Use this copy for all changes so that the original is kept for you to refer to.You can open it in wordpad or notepad or try Komodo Edit (a free html editor)
Now use a basic web tutorial (http://www.w3schools.com/ have a good tutorial), locate the section on colours and find the locations in the website source and change the colours (the point of doing this is to find out what part of the webpage the block of html belongs to - in effect you are breaking down the webpage into smaller more manageable chunks, to see how they are put together - always save the source as a different file, for example myfile1-1, myfile1-2 etc that way you can always get to an earlier stage).
Once you have the overview of the webpage, now change some of the text (don't forget to save the file as a different file when making changes.
From here you can develop your webpage and change the original completely and make your own webpages. Pay particular attention to the Link name statements.
Good luck
