I wanted to start an online business a little over three years ago and make money using the internet, just as you do.
Unlike most, I had never used a personal computer in my life, let alone been online.
What had actually inspired me was watching some well-known internet guru on the television, promoting himself and explaining how easy it was to earn a living from the internet. He went on to elaborate about his lavish internet lifestyle. It was a really well done rag to riches presentation, lots of photographic evidence of the great entrepreneurial type lifestyle that I had so wanted to live, for as long as I can remember.
That was enough to wet my appetite to make my fortune online. I went out and purchased my first computer from a second hand shop for a whopping 60. It even had a small crack on the monitor, for which I did not have to pay any extra. Now I know that it compared to something that Noah probably chucked off the Ark, but as far as I was concerned back then, this was the tool that I was going to use to learn all about how to make money on the internet, and that was all that really mattered.
Fortunately for me, getting to know the basics of using the internet did not pose too many major problems for me. I started to see what I had been missing for all the years. I subscribed to the guru that had me interested in the internet and its potential online earnings. For a monthly fee, I received internet marketing information, not how to build a website as a newcomer to online business, or any great internet marketing strategies.
It was more like a sort of roadmap to one aspect of a web business that kept me very interested and keen at the time. I will not go deep into this, but the longer I was following this guru's teachings, the more further I was actually getting sucked into his sales funnel, and buying internet marketing products that he recommended, thinking that I would sell them online. No such luck, the majority of the products were rehashed rubbish, made up of public label rights material that is available free on the internet, if you know where to look.
That was it for internet marketing and me, as I now felt like I was been taken for a ride, to a certain extent anyway. I had followed the wrong internet-marketing mentor, and this happens to many newcomers to internet marketing when first starting out with online business ventures. Be warned!
Personally, I had a very lucky escape, as for a few thousand pounds I had the option of one to one coaching from the man that had first captured my curiosity, and then left me with a very bad taste in my mouth afterwards, towards earning money online.
Every dark cloud does have a positive aspect however. On my birthday last year, armed with a brand new upmarket laptop, I trawled the net once again, half-heartedly looking for my possible next mentor.
Bingo, one individual caught my attention within an hour or so. The same individual that took me by the hand and taught me how to build my first website, find customers that are interested in buying what I have to offer on any of my many websites that I now have, no matter what the product is.
Do not let yourself, as many others and myself included have done, that is to be taken for a very expensive ride when first starting out in online business.
