(3) Newsletter Planning and Strategy- Newsletters are not ADS ! The purpose of a newsletter is not to be an in-your-face advertising message. Your newsletter will be much more successful if you plan to be more subtle.


The type of newsletter used as a base chosen when you choose to create a newsletter can and will influence the content, style, formats, tools needed and more. The Promotional newsletter is most commonly used by businesses to promote a product or service. Also called a marketing newsletter, a promotional or marketing newsletter is typically sent to current or prospective customers free of charge but, lately paid subscriber models have become more common. The promotional newsletter tries to turn prospects into customers and customers into repeat customers.

Relationship newsletters such as club newsletters, employee newsletters, churches newsletters, etc. focus on shared interests of the target audience. Usually distributed free, some organizations may send newsletters only to paid members which can most often be seen in closed groups with similar interests such as in internet marketing.

The expert newsletter is very common among internet marketing entrepreneurs. This type of newsletter can be very exclusive and/or be paid. The subscibers are usually followers of the owner or one of their products.
