Nfc East Playoff Race For The 2nd Seed
Four of the six NFC teams that qualified for the playoffs has a chance this weekend
for a first round bye creating chaos as we head into the final week of the regular season. The only team that already is eliminated from qualifying from a first round bye that made the playoffs in the NFC is the Green Bay Packers.
New Orleans Saints With Minnesota falling to Chicago last night, the Saints are the only team in the NFC that knows for sure they have a first round bye in the playoffs. They will also have home field advantage throughout the playoffs as the number one seed.
Teams Looking for a first round bye
Philadelphia Eagles They pretty much control their own destiny. With a win against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday they are guaranteed the 2nd seed and a first round bye in the playoffs. Or if they tie with Dallas and Minnesota loses or ties they still get the second seed. Along with the first round bye a win over the Cowboys will give the Eagles 1st place in the NFC East division.
Minnesota Vikings Even though they tried their best to comeback against a struggling Bears team last night the lost put the Vikings currently in third place behind the Eagles and Saints. However if the Vikings can win this weekend against the NY Giants then they still have a shot at a first round bye. But they will need the Eagles to lose or tie Dallas.
Dallas Cowboys The cowboys have been playing really good football lately after it seemed for a while that their season looked to be over. Now in the last week of the regular season they find themselves against a streaking Eagles team that have won six games in a row and features one of the most explosive offenses in the league. But going into this weekends game the Cowboys will be playing at home, and if they can pull off the win they will take1st place in the NFC East division and a shot at a first round bye. With a win they will need the Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals to lose in order to have a first round bye.
Arizona Cardinals Arizona seems to be the forgotten team in the NFC this year even though they just beat Minnesota two weeks ago and went to the Super Bowl last year and almost pulled off the victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals are probably the most underrated team heading into the playoffs and with a win over the Packers at home this weekend they could be on their way to a first round bye. Along with a victory over the Packers the Cardinals would need the Vikings and the Eagles to lose in order to secure a first round bye.
This weekend promises to be one of the craziest weekends in the History of the NFC as four teams battle it out for the second seed in the NFC. Usually in the last week of the regular season teams rest their starters to avoid injuries heading into the playoffs, but not this year with so much on the line starters will be playing until the end of the 4th quarter.
