Nfl Tickets - Prominent Plowshares
The NFL is becoming more and more of a two running back league
, in that a lot of teams prefer to split the ground workload between at least two backs. Let's take a look at some of more prominent running back duos in the league and how they might fare in 2010.
DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers: Both of these backs rushed for more than 1,100 yards last season, which makes them the most dangerous running back duo in the league. The team drafted Stewart two seasons ago to presumably take over the starting job, but something clicked with Williams that offseason. Now the Panthers have two of the best backs in the league. However, Williams has shown some signs of wearing down, and his size suggests that he might not be able to carry the full load as well as guy of Stewart's stature. I think Stewart will actually receive more work than Williams in 2010, though it might not be by a huge margin. Either way, this is a tandem that fans definitely want to get NFL tickets to see hit the field.
Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, Denver Broncos: Buckhalter got more work than I expected last season, and now could again be in line to hit the ground running in 2010 if Moreno can't play in Week 1. However, Moreno has the most talent of anyone in the Denver backfield, which I think will ultimately win out. If he plays in all 16 games, I think 1,100 yards rushing is attainable for Moreno as he slowly takes over as the lead back in Mile High City.
Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower, Arizona Cardinals: If the running back position was simply about running the ball, then Wells would get nearly all of the work, but that's not the case. Hightower is a far superior a receiver out of the backfield and is a much better blocker, which will ensure that he sees the field with regularity. However, the Cardinals are looking to run the ball more in 2010, which is where Wells comes in. His combination of size and speed makes him a big threat with the ball and I think he'll get most of the workload this season. If he can prove to the coaching staff that he's improved on his receiving and blocking skills, he could be in for a big year.
Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints: Mike Bell is also in the mix here, but Thomas and Bush figure to be the main ball carriers for the Saints in 2010. Thomas is more suited to be an every-down back, but Bush's talents never seem to stop tantalizing the Saints coaching staff. While it's more likely that Thomas ends up being the best back on this team, I'm going out on a limb and predicting a better year for Bush.
Joseph Addai and Donald Brown, Indianapolis Colts: I expected Brown to take a lot of work away from Addai last season, but that wasn't the case. Addai is fantastic as a receiver and a blocker, and Brown didn't run well enough to steal too many carries in 2009. I think Brown will get some more work in 2010, but not enough to become the primary ball carrier just yet.
Matt Forte and Chester Taylor, Chicago Bears: The Bears brought in Taylor this offseason for a reason and paid him like a player that will be getting consistent touches. Even if Forte is able to bounce back from a disappointing 2009 campaign, I think Taylor is better-suited to play in Mike Martz's offense.
Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams: Brown just can't stay on the field. He's talented, but the Dolphins can't really rely on him. I think Williams is a safer bet to garner the majority of the workload on the ground this season.
Felix Jones and Marion Barber, Dallas Cowboys: Tashard Choice is also in the mix here, but I think this is the season that the torch gets passed from Barber to Jones. Jones is one of the most explosive players in the league. If he can stay healthy, he's the guy to watch.
