Nfl Tickets - Week 4 Notes

Here are some things that stood out to me in Week 4 of the 2009 NFL season.

The Patriots are still a top team in the AFC. Wins over Atlanta and Baltimore in consecutive weeks proved that. While this offense might not be the same record-setting one that sold so many NFL tickets in 2007, the team as a whole is still among the best in the league. The team is pretty balanced as far as offense and defense goes, though the Patriots are less balanced on offense specifically. Their lack of a running game could end up hurting them, but Tom Brady is returning to form and spreading the ball around nicely.

The Colts are the best team in the AFC. Indianapolis often starts well, but I'm surprised to see them at 4-0 after undergoing a coaching change this offseason. The Colts have dominated their last two opponents and are firing on all cylinders offensively. Peyton Manning looks to be well on his way to yet another MVP award and the defense is really improving as the weeks go by. The Colts are the best team in the AFC right now, but there is a lot of season ahead. Besides, it's the playoffs that really count for Manning and Co.

Though he got hurt against the Bears, Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford has a bright future. For the second consecutive week, Stafford showed real signs that he'll be a very good quarterback in the pros. The number one overall pick is getting used to the NFL game and has played very well in his last two contests. A knee injury may force him to miss some time, but he's on his way to developing into everything the Lions hope he'll become.

Eli Manning has figured it out and Steve Smith has helped him do it. Manning is having his best season as a pro and looks like he's really comfortable in this offense. Wide receiver Steve Smith is developing into a legitimate number one receiver and is helping Manning by providing a reliable target for the quarterback. This combo looks like a dangerous one.

The Jaguars could be dangerous. With a solid running game and David Garrard doing a good job protecting the ball, the Jags are showing their potential as a team. They've got playoff potential as long as they remain consistent. Their defense has not been spectacular, but it hasn't been bad, either. Mike Sims-Walker appears to be a legitimate number one receiver, as well.

The Dolphins can survive without Chad Pennington. Chad Henne looked like he has a bright future as the starting quarterback for Miami and the Fins did a great job on the ground to down the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. Pennington made this team more of a contender now, but Henne is the future under center and looks a bit more ready that most people anticipated.

The 49ers are a tough team with a good defense. The defense dismantled the Rams in Week 4 and you can see that head coach Mike Singletary has injected a serious dose of toughness into this team. The defense is playing great, especially linebacker Patrick Willis, and the offense is doing enough. This team could be going places.
