Night-time Nappy Changing

Nappy changing during the night is not something parents look forward to

, particularly if their baby is sleeping peacefully. But night-time nappy changing is sometimes unavoidable, not least because the uncomfortable feeling of a full nappy can wake a sleeping baby. So how can you change a nappy without waking your baby or causing too much disturbance?

1. First of all have everything you need for nappy changing to hand, such as a clean nappy, Huggies Wipes or Cotton Soft Sheets and water, and nappy cream.

2. Avoid turning the main light on; turn on a side light or night light instead so that you have enough light to see what you're doing without disturbing him.

3. Change your babys nappy in his cot if you can, as being lifted from his bed and coming into contact with a cold surface is more likely to wake him.

4. Have the clean nappy, like Huggies Natural Fit, open and ready right next to him so that when you lift his legs to remove the soiled nappy you can slide the new one in its place instantly.

5. Carefully undo his baby grow and nappy. Give him a quick wipe and pop on the clean nappy.

6. If you see him stirring, make gentle shushing noises or give him his dummy if using one.

When nappy changing at night always move carefully, touch him gently (making sure your hands are warm) and try to make as little noise as possible - but at the same time try to do it as quickly as you can so as not to cause too much disturbance. It's also helpful to put him to bed in easy open sleep suits to avoid a struggle in the semi-darkness!
