Nike SasQuatch Driver's Review

As we all known, The Sasquatch is one heck of a giant driver. To my eye, it is the biggest of all the over sized drivers that I have seen over the years.

The new Nike SasQuatchDriver has a higher MOI than original SQ driver at 4950 g/cm2 for greater forgiveness and increased distance. A larger and lower power bow moves CG lower and further back and further increases MOI. Get all the game-changing technology and performance that you've come to expect from Nike Golf.

The driver looks so big because Nike decided to stretch the club from the front to the back. In other words, the club head is longer than most of the drivers that you have become accustomed to seeing. The company claims that this lowers the weighting of the club head and moves the mass of the club head further back from the actual club face. What this ultimatly means is that it is easier for you to get the ball in the air.

This is all good and sure to help your game, but I start out by determining whether or not a club looks good to my eye. I love the look of the Nike Ignite driver, but the Sasquatch just does not do it for me. The head just looks too long. The Sasquatch just does not look easy to swing or pleasing to my eye right out of the gate and that is an immediate negative. I also want to check how the club feels in my hands before even hitting a ball. In this regard, the Sasquatch passes for the most part. I think my mind wants to believe that the club does not fit well in my hands for the simple reason that it looks different. Which is the problem. My mind should not be thinking any of these thoughts when getting ready to hit the ball.

Also, the look and feel mean nothing if the club produces the desired shots. The Sasquatch does a decent job of producing. I hit the club a few yards longer than with my Ping drivers. I hit it much higher than with either of my Ping drivers and this is good and bad. I like a high ball flight, but I also like ot able to hit it low. I could not do so with the Sasquatch and this is a negative. You will play in wind and in conditions that warrant a low tee ball in order to maximize roll. You will not get it with this club. On the plus side, I had very little trouble working the ball to the right or the left. I hit my natural draw with ease and was able to hit a nice little fade without much difficulty.

One thing I did not like was the feel of the club while swinging and hitting the ball. I assume you will get over it, but I felt like I did the first time I swung an oversized driver; like there was drag similar to swinging into a good breeze. Again, I would guess that after time you get over this feeling, but I do not like having to fight it until I feel comfortable with it.
