Nissan LEAF gets nod of approval from Lance Armstrong
Algonquin Nissan dealers along with Nissan dealers around the country are anxiously awaiting the official release of the Nissan LEAF. The first of two electric cars to be mass-produced, (GM's Volt being the second) will "hit" dealer lots by the end of this year.
Hit is in quotations because LEAF vehicles will not actually make it to a lot display. All of the highly anticipated environmentally friendly vehicles being produced this year have already been spoken for. One particularly lucky LEAF will go to none other than Lance Armstrong.
And oh is he excited, and rightfully so. In a recent youtube video, the world-famous cyclist speaks about the importance of the LEAF in a different manner than most people probably consider. For Lance, the introduction of an electric, fume-free vehicle provides hope that one day all vehicles will run in this fashion. For a cyclist that shares the road with vehicles - riding behind their tailpipes and breathing in the polluted air - a world of electric vehicles means a healthier office space.
In the video, Mr. Armstrong attempts to drive home his point about the negative effects car pollution has on his sport by bringing up the Olympic Games in Beijing. Athletes noticeably suffered due to the smog in China because they were unable to use their full lung capacity. Lance claims being a cyclist who rides behind cars is a little like riding in Beijing everyday.
In the video Lance says, "the air quality is a significant issue. If we continue down the path that we're on, that's just going to get worse." He isn't talking just about the small industry of cycling either. Armstrong says "we as a society" need to rethink how we live and pollute. His desire to support Nissan is due to the fact that Nissan is producing a product that has the ability to be the catalyst for this much needed change.
For Algonquin Nissan dealers and their customers, the LEAF offers peace of mind and the knowledge that they aren't adding to the problem. Even though most people don't spend their lives exercising outside in order to make a living, everyone enjoys the fresh air in one-way or another. Knowing the air isn't any less fresh after you've made a routine trip to the grocery store can mean a lot to the average American. The ability to have that option as a consumer now is really telling of the kind of progress the car industry has made. "I think this is really a tipping point," said Lance.
A Naperville Nissan dealer commented on the fact that the LEAF is not the only thing Nissan has going on these days. Recently, Nissan debuted its updated ad campaign. Adding to its existing campaign of "shift the way you move," Nissan is committing to offer "Innovation for All." They have several new vehicles on or soon to be on the market in addition to the LEAF - perfect for those people who are looking to buy now but don't have the clout of Lance Armstrong to secure their own LEAF.
