Nissan Micra Production Doubled In India

The leading Japanese car maker Nissan has stated on Tuesday that the company has

increased the production of its recently launched small hatchback Nissan Micra by as much as 100 percent (500 units a day) in the Indian market. The move has been taken in a bid to meet the mounting order backlog for this car in the country that has already crossed the 2,500 unit mark. It is to be mentioned here that Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL), the Indian subsidiary of this Japanese auto giant, had rolled-out Nissan Micra model in the Indian market last month in the price range of Rs Rs 3.98 lakh and Rs 5.29 lakh (Delhi, ex-showroom). With this, the company is also going to dispatch the overseas shipments of Micra from September 2010 wherein, the first shipment will be dispatched for Europe.

According to a statement given by Nissan India's spokesman, in order to cater to the huge demand, the company has begun second shift of production and the average daily production is over 500 units, which is expected to increase in near term. He added that in a single shift basis, the company was producing 255 units every day till last week. Further elaborating the details of order backlog of the company, he said that the company has a progressively increasing order book and has so far received more than 3,400 bookings.

Last month, the company managed to sell as many as 928 units of Micra in the country in just 15 days since the delivery of the car commenced on 15th of July. At present, the waiting period for this car goes up to two months depending on the availability of a particular color in a particular variant. The Micra model will be exported to as many as 100 countries along with the production of 80,000 units in the initial year of its launch. Only 20 percent of this high production figure will be sold in the Indian market and rest of the units will be exported overseas.
