Nissan Obd Check Engine Light Fault Codes

"Have you ever had the red check engine light illuminate on your dash

? You wouldnt be the first one. This is a little worrying when youre on the freeway and have no place to stop. Then there is the stress of imagining what the mechanics bills would be like.

Here is a simple guide to finding out whats caused the check engine light to come on, so you know whats going on before you see your mechanic. You may be able to identify and fix the problem yourself.

This is the procedure for checking the check engine light fault codes for Nissans 1990-2000 that have the Nissan OBD (consult) system installed. For a complete list of compatible cables go to http://www.blazt.biz/information/cars.php.

Step 1:

Locate the ECU. In most models its underneath the kickboard in front of the front passenger seat. There is a knob or switch on the side marked diagnostics that has an LED next to it.

Turn this knob clockwise (or to the on position).

Step 2:

Note the amount of flashes shown by the LED. This is the check engine light fault code. There may be several codes, but they are easily interpreted. There will be a sequence of flashes, the long flashes (0.6sec each) represent the 10s column, and the short flashes (0.3sec each) represent the 1s. For example if you got 2 long flashes followed by one short flash then you would have a code of 21 (ignition fault). If you have more than one fault then the next fault code in sequence will show.

Step 3:

Turn the diagnostics knob anticlockwise or off and note the fault code table below.
