Nissan in Boston offers Tips for Driving in The Rain
With an average of 45 inches of rain each year in Boston, Massachusetts, you can be sure you'll spend a good number of days driving through wet, raining conditions. Nissan in Boston provides the following tips driving in the rain safely:
Drive in the Middle
Choose the middle lanes on multi-lane roads or try to drive near the center line when it's raining. Water frequently builds up on the sides of the roads or in the outer lanes of multi-lane roads and deep water can cause hydroplaning.
Keep Your Headlights On
Many of the newer cars have lights which turn on automatically when you start the car. If your Nissan's lights don't come on automatically, remember to turn them on whenever it's raining even if you don't really need them to see because it helps other drivers see you through the rain drops.
Slow Down
Rain decreases visibility, which means you should drive slower so you have more time to stop. Rain also causes slippery conditions which can be similar to ice even when it's not freezing so driving slower will prevent sliding on wet pavement and reduce your risk of getting into an accident from driving too fast for the weather conditions.
Avoid Driving in Moving Water
Never drive your Nissan through any body of moving water if you can't see the road through it. What you think is just a puddle could actually be fairly deep and either damage your engine or sweep your car off in the current.
Watch for Road Spray
Pass buses and big trucks carefully and put more space between you and them on the roads when it's raining. Larger vehicles spray a lot of water onto nearby cars which makes it even harder to see where you're going.
