Nissan-renault-bajaj Small Car Prototype To Hit Market By 2011
The upcoming ultra-low-cost car from the Nissan-Renault-Baja partnership will be rolled-out in a prototype version in the year 2011
. According to news sources the company will start testing this much anticipated car in the Indian market by next year. It is needs to mentioned here that Nissan-Renault JV has been in talks with India's leading two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto for developing an India bound ultra low cost and high fuel efficient car, since year 2008. After its launch in the Indian market the prospective ultra low cost car will be locking horns with India's lowest priced and most popular Tata Nano model.
The fully-developed version of this car is expected to be launched in the Indian market by the end of year 2012. Recently, Baja auto had said in a statement that the upcoming ultra low car will be delivering an exceptional fuel economy of as high as 30 km/l. However, the details like specifications and price of the car are yet to be revealed by the company in India. It is widely speculated that the ULC car will be price the lowest in the country at Rs 1.1 lakh. The car will be developed at the platform of Bajaj's two and three-wheelers in the Indian market. Where, the Indian two wheeler-giant will be taking care of the designing and the development of the car, the Nissan-Renault partnership will be handling the sales and marketing process of this car. It is also rumored that this new small car will be having a Bajaj logo at its boot.
The Nissan-Renault partnership has invested heavily at their Chennai plant in a bid to set-up a high capacity manufacturing facility. The Chennai capacity currently has a production capacity of as much as 4 lakh units annually.
