Nissan's Leaf EV sells out for 2010 with orders exceeding the company's expectations

. LEAF will go on sale in Ireland in February 2011 at an all in retail price of 29,995 - - making electric vehicles now a real option for the Irish family car buyer.

There will be just one version of Nissan LEAF available in Ireland fully equipped with features such as 16" Alloy Wheels, fully automatic Climate Control, Satellite Navigation, Cruise Control, a Rear Parking Camera and a Quick Charge Socket. Safety equipment such as Driver, Passenger, Side and Curtain airbags will be standard and Electronic Stability Control. Equipment will also include the very distinctive LED headlamps which is a first for Nissan. The Japanese company became the first major automaker to sell an all electric car to the general public by beating out General Motors Volt to the market place.

Nissan made 19,000 of the cars available The company's goal is to eventually sell 500,000 Leaf electric cars annually.Nissan has been able to make the cheapest car battery made to date.Initial reviews of the car have been positive and Nissan just may have a big hit on its hands.

The LEAF offers a 100 mile range with a top speed of 90 mph. Nissan surprised everyone with the size of the car as it features five seats and a good sized trunk.

The Nissan Leaf is a motor with no oil, no petrol tank, no transmission, no exhaust pipe. A car that runs on 100% electricity, an energy source that can be made cheaply and ecologically.A car that charges while you sleep, while you shop, while you work. A car that embraces recycled materials.Innovative smart phone connectivity will allow an owner to control many elements of the LEAF's functions remotely - including tell the car when to re-charge, to heat or cool the interior of the car before starting a journey and many more remarkable features. The fact that millions of gallons have poured into the Gulf of Mexico the past month will only help increase the demand for the country to break it's reliance on oil. It looks like Nissan has given us the chance to take our first step to breaking our addiction to oil.
