, as smelling good is equally as important to looking good, and perfumes can say just as much about a person as clothes can. Almost every woman has a favourite scent, but sometimes a particular scent is appropriate for particular occasions. Wearing the same perfume everyday can be boring, you need an arsenal of perfumes to suit each and every occasion.

There are loads of different occasions and times to apply perfume. Some apply it every morning as part of their routine, while others might only apply perfume before a big night out. Perfume is a huge industry and there are many different scents available to suit each occasion and use.

Going to a perfume counter can simply make matters worse, as it can be difficult to know which perfume is right just by looking. Even using testers can be confusing, and once you have tested one perfume the scent does tend to stay with you. Walking away with some perfume sprayed onto your hand and reviewing it later as it has a chance to dry is a good way of checking out a perfume which is going to be worn over a whole day. Scents tend to change over time as they dry, and different notes within the fragrance will begin to become more noticeable as time goes on. Knowing how a scent develops over time is a useful way of deciding upon when and how it should be used.

There are many places to buy perfume, including from department stores, pharmacies, perfume shops or direct from companies themselves, perhaps via their website or a catalogue. If you have the luxury of a perfume counter, then make sure you ask about the fragrances on offer. They should have some scent cards so you can review the fragrances later. Just be careful as perfumes will not respond to paper the same way they respond to flesh. The staff at a perfume counter should also be able to assist by describing a perfume and detailing its ingredients.

If you can take scents home with you, either on your wrist or on scent cards, it means you can ask friends, family or a partner what they make of it. When you buy a new fragrance for the first time, it can be a good idea to buy a small bottle so you can familiarise yourself with it.
