No Socks Or No Show Socks, That Is The Question
No Socks Or No Show Socks, That Is The Question
If you are wearing shorts or cropped trousers in fact anything that sits higher than your ankle, and trainers, boat shoes, or walking shoes, nothing is worse than knee length socks. Well, almost nothing. Far worse, in fact, is wearing nothing on your feet except the shoe. Your mother probably warned you that wearing shoes with no socks was liable to result in athlete's foot, and she was right! Sweaty feet and trainers or shoes that don't get washed regularly simply don't mix. It won't be long before you develop that itchy skin between your toes and, before you know it, your skin will crack and become excruciatingly sore. So, really, socks of one kind or another are a must, and really there are only two choices; crew socks, or no show' socks.
Crew socks are a good choice for wearing with trainers, or other practical or comfort shoes. Although crew socks do show above the ankle of the shoe, they still look neat and tidy, and stop the edges from rubbing the back of your heel, which is another danger of shoes without any socks at all. Crew socks stay in place, without sliding into your shoes and bunching up at the bottom, so they re comfortable. And you can even get crew socks with different coloured tops, so they can be coordinated with your outfit.
An alternative for those who don't want to display their socks at all is no show socks. These either don't show at all, or show only a tiny bit above the sides and back of the trainer or shoe. True no show socks can be a little tricky to wear, though, as they have a tendency to slide down into your shoes and bunch up inside, creasing and causing discomfort. If you're looking for no show socks, be sure to buy the correct sizenot all manufacturers' sizes are the same, and some come in more sizes than others. Buy one pair of no show socks from a particular manufacturer first and, once you're sure that the size is right for you, you can bulk buy the same brand safe in the knowledge that they'll fit you properly.
Finally, be sure to buy your socks, whatever kind you buy, with a good percentage of naturally absorbent material. After all, the most important thing about socks is that they should absorb sweat, preventing athlete's foot and general discomfort. Modern materials can be a great boon in improving fit and stopping socks slipping, but they should only be used as a small part of the sock's overall makeup.
Whether you're buying crew socks or no show socks, follow the above rules; your mother will be proud of youand your feet will be comfortable, healthy, attractive for years to come. Your feet take a lot of punishment carrying you around. Take care of them by buying the right socks, in the right size, and washing them after every wear. That way, they'll continue to take care of you.
