Nokia C6 Some Striking New Features
The Finnish world leader in Symbian smartphones Nokia has just unveiled a trio of handsets with a social networking flair
. One of them is the full QWERTY slider Nokia C6 that looks like a direct replacement to the unlamented Nokia N97 but targeted at a more budget conscious market that has no patience with overpriced frivolities.
But at the same time, the mid-tier C6 is pitched to what Nokia considers their idea of a youthful crowd with features that take a nod to the trendy social networking penchant of its markets. Its built-in support for Facebook, Twitter and Ovi Plus as well as instant messaging over Google Talk, Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger, not to mention Webmail, shows its socially aware prowess is as good as any.
Connectivity Options Galore
As a socially aware handset, the Nokia C6 is a joy to use with all the radio and data connectivity options at you disposal. Its a quad band radio on both GSM and UMTS with Class 32 GPRS/EDGE data speeds on 2G as well as HSDPA/HSUPA on 3G. Hotspot surfing support with its WiFi02.11b/g starts of its local high data connectivity options that also include data transfer and synchronization with Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB 2-0 for either wireless of wired connection options, respectively.
Plus, its microUSB port is also used for charging its 1200 mAh LiIon batteries which delvers 7 hours of talk time in 2G, 5 hours in 3G and 30 hours of continuous music listening with 384 hours of standby time.
Theres also SatNav with its onboard GPS receiver with A-GPS support and preloaded with Ovi Maps that feature a drive and walk navigation Nokia offers free of charge. It sports a stereo FM radio with RDS, a 3.5mm audio out jack so can use your favorite Hi-Fi headsets and its A2DP profile support allows wireless stereo earphones.
Hardware Features
Theres hardly any doubt that the Nokia C6 traces an XpressMusic lineage from the highly successful 5800 handset and its siblings. It not only looks like one when closed but it has the same 3.2 inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen display featuring the same 16 million colors and nHD resolution. Its CPU is likewise the same 434 MHz ARM 11 running the same Symbian v9.4 OS and housed in a slider body measuring 113 x 53 x 16.9mm that s only thicker by 1.4mm thanks to its QWERTY slider half that also brings its weight to N97 territory at an identical 150g.
Apart from its connectivity features in the entertainment department, the Nokia C6 comes with the XpressMusic media content playback for decoding audio files in the in the MP3, WAV, WMA and eAAC+ file formats as well as video files in the MP4, H.264 and WMV codecs.
But Nokia also brings its imaging features to N97 levels at par with todays competition in its class with a 5 megapixel autofocus shooter that gets LED flash, face/smile detection, geo tagging and video capture at VGA resolution and 30fps frame rates.
Its onboard memory also goes better than the 5800 but is much lower than the N97s 32GB internals with 240 MB and comes with microSD expandability for up to 16 GB. GP
