Rich features in a quirky design

This is where the newest addition to the X phone Series, the Nokia X5, comes in. The handset is almost square and comes with an unusually shaped slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The keys are built close together without a gap between them. However, the keys are a bit rounded on top to provide fast and error-free data entry. Despite its design, the device is quite easy to handle and the keyboards are helpful when you need to type long messages.

Powered by 600 MHz ARM 11 mobile processor beating under the hood, the X5 runs a Symbian 9.3 operating system with a version 3.2 Series 60 user interface riding on top. Sharp and vibrant images are viewed on the handsets 2.36-inch TFT screen with 256K colours running at 320 x 240 pixels resolution.

The new Nokia X5 mobile phone supports both 2G and 3G networks for world-wide roaming. 2G networks provide quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 connectivity whilst 3G networks provide connectivity through tri band HSDPA 900/ 1900/ 2100. Added connectivity comes through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Focus on audio

The X5 leans heavily towards audio entertainment and boasts excellent sound quality. Unique shake and spin gestures add some enhancement to the phones music features. For example, you can spin the handset to select a new track.

The X5 handset is touted as having excellent sound quality and speakers. Music selection on the phone is enhanced by clever new gestures. For instance, you can spin the phone to jump to a new track. Other movements call up messaging functions. Just shake the phone lightly to view all your unread messages.

Advertised as an audio-centric mobile phone, the Nokia X5 is shipped with a pre-installed all-around media player. The software can play back both MP4, H.264 and H.263 video formats as well as MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC+ audio formats. Stunning sound clarity can be enjoyed by listening through the handsets built-in speakerphone or privately on a headset connected to the 3.5 mm audio jack.

Camera features and SNS integration

Besides an inclination towards music, the new X5 handset also slants towards social networking and messaging. Apart from integrating popular social networking sites (SNS) like Facebook, Twitter, Hi5, and MySpace, the X5 also provides Instant messenger and multiple email accounts support.

Shutterbugs and photo buffs will surely love the camera that is included with the X5. The 5 megapixel shooter comes with an LED flash and can render up to 2592 x 1944 pixels image resolution. It can record VGA-quality video as well at 15 fps.

The Nokia X5 measures 74.3 x 66.4 x 16.8 mm and weighs in at 129 g. It can be found in a variety of snazzy colours which include Yellow Green, Azure, Pink, Graphite Black and Purple.
