Not Backanswering-Just the Generation Gap!!

We very often hear the above sentences in different languages, in different situations. They are uttered atleast once in a lifetime in every parent-child relationship. The parent believes that the child is being disrespectful by offering their own point of view. But the child's point of view shows a difference in the way they think which is due to the generation gap."

Last week, when I went to meet my sister, who is twelve, that is six years younger to me, told me that her classmate professed his undying love for her. My jaw fell open. I quickly asked her what she said, her reply was "Nothing, I told him that I don't feel the same way and that we can just be friends," she said casually.

W-What?! I stuttered. Nobody and note that I stress on nobody' has ever said "I love you" to me!! Not because I am a jerk but because I know my limits. I do make friends with members of the opposite sex, but never let anyone get so free with me so as to allow him to say something so sacred like he was reading out the news!!

I realized my mouth was still open, when she asked me to shut it. "What's the big deal? She asked, and indeed, what was the big deal? Three stupid words! No big deal!

But, it took me some more time to get used to the thought. Sensing my disapproval over the matter, she pleaded "Don't tell mom" "Of course not!" I waved her away.

That's when I realized that the famous generation gap is not between parents and children alone, but even between those spaced just 5 years away from each other. That day itself, I went and told

mom about my sister's little rendezvous. If I could be so severe with something that I couldn't grasp, how can I blame my mother for reprimanding me for something she believes is wrong?!

And when I explain myself, naturally, for her, I am back answering!
