When the first computer was invented, no one ever imagined that they would become a necessity and a necessity for us at home. Computers were big boxes and very expensive. Those were the days when every office used to have only one or two desktops and every one had to attend computer classes to learn and understand how to work on computers. The operating systems were not windows then. But today we have come a long way from there.
Slowly Desktops gave way to Laptops which were easier for people to carry and today notebooks and ipads are making their way into our lives. As people started getting more and more used to computers and internet applications, the benefit of having laptops that could be easily carried anywhere became a big hit.
Laptops on an average weight between three to five kgs including all accessories and are very easy to carry. Laptops can be used without direct power source for between three to four hours and comes with rechargeable batteries and power cord with which you can keep recharging and using the laptop.
In the beginning Laptops were very highly priced.Technically laptops are far more delicate machines as they contain miniature components and hence it is expensive proposition to build laptops. Laptops prices however have been falling with increase in production as well as market size.
In our homes desktops are fast being replaced by laptops. When in case of both parents being working professionals, you are likely to see many laptops at home. The parents will have their personal as well as official laptops separately and besides children have their own too.
Today laptops are available in different configurations and budgets to suit every segment. You have different models of laptops for business purpose , multi media or studio laptops with high end graphics capabilities for use of advertising professionals, movie makers, architects etc. The entry level models are good enough for using basic office suites, browsing internet and sending emails. Then there are different configurations in high-end laptops with faster processes, video accelerator cars, higher RAM, Video memory as well as Hard Disk capacity. Normally children prefer these high end machines with which they can play games online as well as offline, have LAN party and watch movies, record songs etc. The entertainment value of laptop is what children go by. These high end machines are also preferred by the other professional communities that are associated with multi media, advertising as well as movie making and editing.
Now a days children are very intelligent, tech savvy and manage to maintain their machines on their own. They are very fast and good at locating required information and downloading from the Internet and use it to solve their problems.
Parents usually never get to go anywhere near their laptops and do not have access, but still as parents you can try to teach them and make them aware not to download songs and movies illegally. Teach them to download by paying for it and tell them about piracy laws and how to follow it. They will in the long run learn to respect rules and become law-abiding citizens.
