San Diego is one of the nicest cities that have a lively performing arts scene
, and residents are constantly on the lookout for all of the new, fresh, funny, or dramatic plays, musicals and acts that they can get their hands (or eyes) on. This summer there are tons of great features that you yourself might be interested in seeing, so here are just a few of those San Diego performing arts performances that will be presented or are already pleasing crowds in town.
On May 27th, Private Lives opened in previews at Old Town Theatre on Twiggs Street. This one is about a divorced couple who is on a cruise with their new spouses who find a renewed spark between them. Tickets are $17 $49, and the production is produced by Cygnet Theatre Company. Summer and Smoke is another production that opened on May 27, this one at New Village Arts. This one is about Alma, who is in search of spirituality and love, and John, who is in need of sensual fulfillment. Tickets for Summer and Smoke are $20 $40.
San Diego performing arts also is now presenting Voice of the Prairie at North Coast Repertory Theatre on Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach. Tickets are $30 $41 each. In Voice of the Prairie, farmer Davey Quinn shares many of boyhood stories to share with the old time radio phenomenon as backdrop. All in the Timing shows us six David Ives sketches that take a look at a universal language, the death of Leon Trotsky and much more. This one is produced by Ion Theatre Company, and tickets are $10 $25.
Frankie & Johnny at the Clair de Lune is about a casehardened woman from New York that gives love a second chance, despite her boyfriends eccentricities. You can see this one at BLK BOX at Sixth Avenue in Hillcrest. Boldas Balcony: The Yom Kippur War of 1973 is the backdrop for the story of Golda Meir, telling her story from her days as a Russian immigrant to an American schoolteacher to Israeli Prime Minister! The Old Globe Theatre is the host of this stunning story, located on Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. Tickets are $35 $77.
Finally, those who enjoy San Diego performing arts will really enjoy Moscow, which is showing through May 30 at Diversionary Theatre, 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights. This one is about three gay men who are trapped in limbo the three men stage a musical production of Chekhovs The Three Sisters, and tickets for this fine example of San Diego performing arts run from $31 $35.
