An OASIS-C change is the updated and revised version of the OASIS data set that is
the basic requirement for all assessments of Medicare and Medicaid patients accomplished on or after January 1, 2010. The OASIS-C contains a guidance manual and provides specific item-by-item information on the completion of each OASIS-C item; sample pages of clinical record forms for OASIS data time points illustrating how the items can be integrated. Not much increase in burden to the agency: There is very little difference in the number of items, except at transfer, in OASIS-C as compared to the previous version of OASIS.
No effect on payment: The OASIS items used in the payment algorithm were evaluated to ensure they were not changed in a way that would affect the payment algorithm.
The process items are optional: The process measures were added to capture care that can be controlled by home health agencies. Many agencies have already incorporated process measures in their patient care for identification of patients who are at high risk for problems.
