Obamas Home Loan Modification Program Still Taking Effect

There were critics of Obama's home loan modification program before it was implemented and they are still there now. When the recession prompted the Obama administration to put into place a special loan modification program to prevent more families from losing their homes, there were critics everywhere comparing it to other programs that have had half of their applicants lose their homes to foreclosure. Though Obama's home loan modification program is different to any other program, the critics are still waiting for it to fail and they are watching the numbers carefully.

The one factor that critics must remember is that government implemented programs no matter how good they are, always take time to display their results, especially when they are influenced or they influence the economy. Time is a big factor in these loan modification programs. First, individuals having trouble making their mortgage payment had to realize that there was government help available. These individuals then had to take action. Unfortunately there may not have been that much instruction as to how to get a loan modification until months later so this again stalled the program's progress.

Once it was realized how to get a loan modification, more families applied. Again, another obstacle of illegitimate loan modification firms cropped up, thus costing some families more money than they could afford and resulting with little assistance. However, for those who found legitimate third party assistance and were eligible for the program saw great results and are now enjoying the benefits of the program.

Right now, statistics show that the majority of applications are still being processed so the economy has no way of seeing the results. Since the economy has been turning around slowly, there is reason to believe that the loan modifications that have been accepted and started are taking a positive effect on the economy but it does take time. It takes months for the reduced payments to be felt by the family so that they can start paying down other bills. The full effect may not even be seen for at least another year.

The program stops accepting new applicants in 2012 and by that time, Americans can expect to see better results from the program. The year 2010 is predicted to be the peak for foreclosures and then the country is to see the housing market settle down as more people are able to make their mortgage payments while others start to get into better financial grounding. So far, Obama's loan modification program has not seen the failure rate that others have seen and economists do not expect it to.
