Food we consume everyday has a prominent role to play in our well-being
. It facilitates the individuals with the requisite amount of nutrients and calories which will provide assistance in carrying on the day to day activities. As the name suggests, it is the relation between the body weight and the height of the individual. The ideal BMI ranges between 18.5 and 24.9. A BMI below 18.5 is of an individual who is underweight. Anything between 24.9 and 30 is the ideal BMI. If the BMI level exceeds 30, then the individuals are obese. The formula for calculating it is as follows:

Childhood obesity
Obesity is most common in children these days. There are many reasons for this. The reasons include food habits, lack of physical activities etc. There are even chances for kids to inherit it from their parents. Studies that were conducted state that children who are obese are prone to type-2 diabetes. The report also said that kids can develop serious heart conditions as well as blood pressure issues. They are showing the exact same symptoms as shown by the adults who are facing the problem of obesity. Being obese can limit the child"s physical activeness. Hence, weight is something that has to be kept under check at all times; and it is equally applicable to adults as well as children.
Preventive measures
Since obesity relates to consuming calories in excess, the first and foremost preventive step that can be initiated is to control the calorie intake. Proper meal planning can be undertaken to keep the weight in control. The parents must try to inculcate healthy eating habits in their children. More of food which has nutritional value must be made available to them. Furthermore, making them practice an exercise regime which is packed with fun will help the children to stay physically fit. It can either be swimming or horseback riding or anything similar. Switching the child"s electronic games with outdoor games will also do the job.
The above discussion proves how much of a serious condition obesity is. In extreme cases, it can even lead to an individual"s death. So prevent it when you have ample time to do so; prevent it before it attacks your children.
