October 12th Is World Egg Day!

Eggs have made a name for themselves as a breakfast favorite

. So, this October 12th has been dedicated as World Egg Day, during which the International Egg Commission donates finances and millions of eggs to help feed people across the world to help reduce world hunger.

To help commemorate the impact eggs have in our lives, not only because theyre fairly inexpensive and tasty, but also because they can be prepared any which way you can imagine.

For those that enjoy a healthy approach to eggs, poached is one of the favored methods. Rather than boiling an egg as a whole inside the shell, the egg is opened allowing the yolk and white to be boiled alone. Then there is the classic boiled, which can be done hard or soft depending on how long you leave them in the boiling water.

Scrambled eggs is one of the breakfast favorites, and though its good by itself, it is often incorporated into some of the on-the-go meals like the burrito.

On the stove, over-easy and sunny-side up have always brought a smile to our faces, and sometimes a real smile if you dress your plate just right with some bacon and pancakes. While sunny-side up has diminished in favor, the addition of basting by adding water to the pan to steam the top of the egg can help ensure the egg is completely cooked while still keeping that sunny-side styled appearance.

Then there is the egg in the oven. Shirred eggs are basically baked eggs which is a method achieved by putting an egg in a bowl or cup that is designed for oven-use and baking it. In some cases, eggs can be shaped into designs, which can be handy for a special event.

But, cooking the egg is only part of the fun and taste. Consider what recipes incorporate the egg. What about deviled eggs? Omelets use the egg and incorporate just about any combination of food you want. Souffl and Frittata are egg favorites as well. Then you have Eggs Florentine or Eggs Benedict which make for a rather elegant meal addition. Dont forget steak and eggs for a dinnertime delicacy. Theres even the egg-drop soup, proving that egg is overwhelmingly important to dishes of all sorts. Of course, egg is even in the batter you bread food with, so its there even if you dont see it.
