You should somehow check into the person before letting your child live there, but some people might do this just to help out college students.

Making sure your child is comfortable that first year of college is probably also important to you. It is hard sometimes for kids to leave their family. It will be hard for you to send them off. Knowing that they are in a clean, comfortable apartment will help. It will also help them to have a more conducive apartment for study.
