Old Sandwich Road Race goes for the gold, signs on as gold level member of the Bayside Runner Race Series
PLYMOUTH, MA
In its first year in 2010, the Old Sandwich Road Race (OSRR) made history by hosting its inaugural race largely on Old Sandwich Road, America's oldest road. In its second year, OSRR took another large step toward becoming a premier destination race by becoming a Gold level member of the Bayside Runner Race Series.
Bayside Runner Owner Adam Stuhlfaut began the Bayside Runner Race Series last month as a means to promote Plymouth road races. In addition to Bayside, the Series has attracted a number of sponsors, including Mizuno sports equipment and apparel. Races who join the Bayside Runner Race Series receive a number of benefits, including marketing and promotional opportunities, as well as race day giveaways and perks for those who run their respective races.
"Plymouth is an incredible place to hold a road race for a variety of reasons, starting with location and history," said Craig Valentine Brenner, race director for the Old Sandwich Road Race. "The Bayside Runner series just shines a light on the wide variety of great races we have here in town and how Plymouth is now officially on the map as a road race destination."
Other members of the Bayside Runner Race Series include:
Manomartian Road Race May 15 - Gold

Runners can register for the series by e-mailing raceseries@baysiderunner.com with some basic information (name, birthday, and gender). As runners participate in Bayside Runner Series races, they accrue points. The higher the level of race, the more points you accrue (e.g. participate in a Gold race, win 3 points; Silver, 2; Bronze 1). If you win or come in second or third for a participating race, you also win points. Overall winners at the end of the year can win prize packages worth between $100 and $200 in Mizuno products. Age group winners will receive $50 gift cards for Mizuno products at Bayside Runner at 38 Long Pond Road in Plymouth.
"The response from local race directors to the Series has been tremendous," said Stuhlfaut. "Plymouth's star is definitely on the rise among Massachusetts road races. The first Old Sandwich race is evidence of that. Hopefully, the Bayside Runner Race Series can take Plymouth races to even higher heights."

The 2011 Old Sandwich Road Race will take place over the course of two days, Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5. The Saturday race will feature the Kids Classic and a new addition to the Old Sandwich Road Race, the OSRR 5k. Sunday's main events include the OSRR Half Marathon, which takes place on Old Sandwich Road, and the Entergy 10k, beginning at Plimouth Plantation. All races end at Plymouth South High School.
Those interested in running the 2011 OSRR can sign up via www.oldsanwichroadrace.com. The first 1500 registrants will receive a shirt. This year's race also has a referral lottery. If you are a registered runner and you refer a friend, who identifies your name in the fill-in field on the online registration form, you will be automatically entered into a drawing for $250 in running gear from Bayside Runner www.baysiderunner.com. The winner will be announced on race day.
Originally a trail used by the Wampanoag Native American tribe, Old Sandwich Road later became the nation's first true public road and a stagecoach route to ferry passengers and mail back and forth between the Massachusetts towns of Plymouth and Sandwich. Today, the road remains pretty much as the Pilgrims left it--a wide, scenic, dirt road bordered by beautiful tall pine trees and towering oaks.
