It was also worn at the time of the first American spacewalk during the mission of Gemini 4. The Speedmaster Professional chronograph was worn in Apollo 11 mission as well. It is one of the many watches that have been flight-qualified by NASA for manned space missions and the only one qualified for extra vehicular activity or EVA.

However, if you think that this collection was actually designed and manufactured for space exploration, you are wrong! It was originally launched in the market in the year 1957 as a racing and sports chronograph. CK 2915 was the first wristwatch model that was introduced in the market under Speedmaster line. Powered by Omega Calibre 321 with novel tachymeter scale bezel, the model featured domed Plexiglas crystal, high contrast and simple index markers. The models second version was released just after two years with alpha hands and black aluminum tachymeter bezel. It was again updated in the year 1963 with straight baton hands and asymmetrical case.
