One Man's Junk

The car scrappage scheme wasn't the only scheme the government started in a bid to make the country considerably more environmentally-friendly

. The boiler scrappage scheme has also been available for a while and offers the owner 400 to get rid of their old boiler.

There is a two-pronged purpose for this scheme. The first reason being that the government has strict carbon dioxide emissions requirements to meet that have been set by the European Union. Older boilers kick out a lot more emissions in the atmosphere because they burn a lot more gas to heat our homes. By getting a more fuel-efficient boiler we would, in fact, all be doing our bit towards saving the planet. The second reason for the introduction of the boiler scrappage scheme is that the government wanted to stimulate the industry. By offering 400 to each person to get a new boiler, a lot more people will look to get their boiler replaced. While the offer has now ended in England, it is still available to people who live in Wales and Scotland.

The Tip Of The Iceberg

That 400 wouldn't be the only money you save either. How much do the average boiler repairs cost? The answer is quite a lot, and that's quite a lot that could be saved by getting a new boiler that will probably have a warranty and will be a lot more reliable anyway even if it doesn't. Other similar savings that can be made would arise if you are a British Gas customer. Someone who has a British Gas boiler will probably be paying an annual fee for boiler maintenance or they will be paying a monthly fee as part of an insurance plan with the company. A newer boiler won't need as much maintaining as an older one so money will also be saved on that front as well. Obviously not forgetting the money that will also be saved on the quarterly gas bill, because your new boiler won't be burning as much gas as the old one.

It's Not Too Late To Save Something

British Gas customers in England can still make a saving on a new boiler despite the scrappage scheme already being finished. There are a number of deals to be found on British Gas online. The best deal being that customers can get 100 off of new boilers that have already been cut in price by a third. That deal also includes a year's free use of British Gas' Homecare service, which is basically a type of insurance for your boiler. Homecare customers get free boiler repairs as well as regular maintenance.

Despite the boiler scrappage scheme being finished in England, residents in Scotland and Wales should not waste any more time and get a new boiler. The scheme will not last forever and if they don't take the government up on their offer they will probably live to regret it. Basically, there is no better time to start scrapping old things that you own. We've had the car and boiler scrappage schemes, but what will be next? Maybe wind-up radio or petrol lawnmower scrappage scheme could be on the horizon. I'm sure there would be plenty of fed-up wives who would apply for any upcoming lazy husband scrappage scheme.
