Navigating the online dating world is no easy task. You're up against 1,000's of men and the competition is fierce.
I put together this guide to get you started. If you use what I tell you here, you're going to be miles ahead of 99% of the guys online. My suggestion would be to use these now before other guys start catching on. This article will cover the top 3 dont's, and my next will cover some more that you need to watch out for.
The Top 3 Dont's
We're going to start here with what not to do, because in the online dating world, it's as much a game of what not to say as it is what to say. Women are looking for any little excuse to hit "NEXT" and go on to the next guy. So take a look at these suggestions and violate them at your own risk.
1. Don't Have Pictures Without a Shirt On
Unless you're under 30 and have a great body, don't put up a picture of yourself bare-chested. It doesn't matter if you're 38 and have the chiseled body of a 24 year old Olympic rower.
If you are under 30 and have a 6-pack, then go ahead and put up that picture of you at a beach, playing Frisbee or running with your dogbut don't flex for the camera. Have the picture taken where you're doing something besides standing there trying to look like a stud because it just makes you look like an idiot.
If you're over 30 and in good shape, you still shouldn't post a picture of yourself bare-chested. Put on a shirt that fits a bit tight so the women can see that you're in shape. Let them imagine the rest.
If you're not in great shape, just average or a bit overweight like me, you definitely want to keep your shirt on. A picture with you wearing something with vertical stripes will make you look thinner. A little known secret is that taking a picture with something huge in the background (a house, mountain, spaceship you get it) will make you look smaller.
Oh, and while we're on this subject for God's sake don't post a picture of yourself in a Speedo. Do I really have to say that? I hope not.
2. Don't Abbreviate Like You're Writing a Text Message
Don't use text message abbreviations anywhere in your profile. It's lame. It's hard to read, and makes you look like you're 13.

3. Don't Post Any Pictures of You With Kids
No photos with kids. Yes, I know you're proud of your kids, your nephew, and the neighbor boy who worships you. But don't put up any pictures of you with a kid on your online dating profile. The internet is a scary place for women.
They think that stalkers, sex offenders, and pedophiles are behind every keyboard. And they're going to think you're careless with your kid's safety if you post that picture of you and junior at the park or playing ball.
The way around this is to say something in your profile write-up about how you thought of putting up the picture of you and your nephew playing catch, but you don't know what kind of people might be lurking out there in cyberspace. Including that in your profile shows that you're proud of your kid, understand the woman's world a little, and have good common sense.
