Ideally, people should see who you are from the details of what you write rather than stating it obviously.

Likewise it is not enough to say how funny you are. Tell people a joke or say something silly to describe yourself. If you have a bizarre story that happened to you or asked David Beckham if he wanted your autograph then say it! Details like this will stand out amongst the sea of bubbly, funny, caring people. If you know a foreign language, people will find this intriguing. If you are new to an area, say so as people will often want to show you the sights.

When posting a photo make sure that you are smiling. Some people look at models and mistake moody glowering for being attractive, but research shows this sends the wrong subconscious signal. Likewise any negative or desperate language will lead to people thinking you are a negative or desperate person.

It is also important to be wary when replying to people on a dating site. If they call you at odd hours, only respond to emails and texts or they do not invite you to meet friends or relatives then they are possibly already married or cheating on a partner. If using a search engine, make sure you are specific - if people are applying from hundreds of miles away then it is unlikely you will be able to meet up with them.
