Online Guitar Lessons
So, you want to learn how to play the guitar, great
, it"s not easy, but it is a expertise you"ll have for the rest of your life. Make sure you get some good instruction however, because bad training, or no training, will just leave you confused and looking like an amature.
Make sure you learn how to use the tension screws in the head of the guitar, (the part at the end of the neck) some electric guitars can have lock"s put on the neck to help keep the strings from slipping and going out of tune, but for the most part, you"re not going to have to worry about that. Simply using your ear and learning the proper tuning method will be more than enough for you.
When you get started learning to play any instrument, the first thing to do, is to make sure that you get along with your tutor. If you can"t stand the approach or the speech"s that some can give, then get out of there, it"s not going to get any better if you stay. Your best bet is to find someone either very clinical, yet friendly, or very laidback and not a perfectionist for music theory, unless you want that too.
That"s why, usually, I tend to recommend online training. I know, people always look at me funny when I tell them to sign up online. But think about it:
"100% free trials, so you can stop when you want
"You can skip ahead if the lessons are boring.
"You can go at your own speed.
"Usually, you can choose from a list of teachers to pick from.
"Different styles "" so you can learn Blues guitar, folk, or even Country if you want, it"s really up to you.
"And, you usually get some bonus" if you do decide to sign up for the full courses. Stuff like tuning software, jam packages, and virtual drum and rhythm machines.
Now, keep in mind, sitting in-front of your computer, watching someone else play the guitar isn"t going to make you grow! Far from it. You will actually have to put in the time. Harsh, but true, but the only truly effective way to become guitar player, is to rehearse to the point where you think your fingers are actually going to bleed. It"s worth it!
The most important thing is to be steady. Watch you"re method, pay attention to proper technique, avoid the dreaded "crab hands" when playing the basic chords in the first four frets. And you"ll be fine. Just remember, it"s supposed to ache that way at first, that"s how you know you"re doing it properly. In other-words, your hand isn"t used to being held in that position for that long, and you"re making your fingers do unfamiliar things, but that"s where the practice and discipline comes in. You have to train your fingers, and learn the frets by feel. Then,When you got that down, you won"t even be aware of how fast you"re progressing.
You"ll start to fly by-by-pass your friends, and be able to skip sections with some of the teachers online, and move to some of the more difficult stuff. Just remember to go back often to the ground rules and watch your technique.
All music styles have the same core ground work. No matter if it"s rock, jazz, hip-hop, what have you, they all start with the basics. Once you get those mastered, you"ll be on your way, and nothing will be able to stop you. So, Welcome to the world of music, and guitar"s, pay attention to the instructors, practice like mad, and let it rip.
