As website owners sometimes we only pursue online marketing opportunities

. However, there are many offline marketing methods that can pull serious targeted traffic to your website. Try these tips:

Business cards are a quick and easy way to advertise your business. Give them out where ever you go, grocery stores, gas stations, banks. Use the space on a business card to your advantage. For a little extra you can have the back of a business card printed with a free offer. Be sure that the URL is easy to read and prominent on the card. If necessary buy a second domain name that is super easy to read and have it directed to your primary site. Then don't be shy, give them out. Try to have a goal to give out so many business cards a week.

Look in the classified section of your newspaper. Many newspapers run what is called "Ucans". These are more often seen in small newspapers, rather than big city papers. If you live in a big city, you can research smaller newspapers at a local university library. You will know if the newspaper runs "Ucans" by reading the "Help Wanted" section of the newspapers and looking for "Ucan" at the bottom of the ad. "Ucan" is a cooperative where you pay approximately $99 and have the ad run in hundreds of classified sections in hundreds of small newspapers that cooperate with the "Ucan" program. This is a very cost effective way to get the word out. However, again, you will want to motivate people to come to your website by offering a free giveaway.

Teaching classes in your area is a great way to build very loyal and targeted traffic to your site. You can offer your classes for free or you can charge a fee. Either way works very well. Encourage your students to use their social networks to tell their friends and followers about your website and then give them nifty free gifts as a thank you. The gifts should be things that they download from your site and always, always include a squeeze page where they must sign up for your newsletter to get the gift.


Check with newspaper editors in your area and see if they might benefit from a free column on your industry topic. This works better with smaller newspapers than larger ones. If you live in a large city, look for the smaller newspapers. They are there. Sometimes all we know about are the larger publications when in fact there are usually several smaller independent newspapers that will work with you. Be sure to include a sample of your writing. Read the newspaper you will be submitting to before you send off your sample. You can submit your query and article sample by snail mail, email, or by asking for an appointment with the editor. Be sure to call before and find out which editor you will be working with. If you are rejected, maintain your professional demeanor. Sometimes today's rejection turns into tomorrow's opportunity!
