Online Marketing Course: Offline Marketing Opportunities For Your Website
Often when we have a website we only think of ways to advertise it online. However, offline methods can be quite dynamic for pulling customers into your website. Consider these tips.
Remember business cards? There was a time when every business owner had a business card. These days online business owners often don't even think about printing business cards to advertise their online business. This is an inexpensive way to get the word out. When printing your cards have your business name and url printed on the front along with a little blurb about how your business will benefit the reader. Give it out everywhere.
Look in the classified section of your newspaper. Many newspapers run what is called "Ucans". These are more often seen in small newspapers, rather than big city papers. If you live in a big city, you can research smaller newspapers at a local university library. You will know if the newspaper runs "Ucans" by reading the "Help Wanted" section of the newspapers and looking for "Ucan" at the bottom of the ad. "Ucan" is a cooperative where you pay approximately $99 and have the ad run in hundreds of classified sections in hundreds of small newspapers that cooperate with the "Ucan" program. This is a very cost effective way to get the word out. However, again, you will want to motivate people to come to your website by offering a free giveaway.
Teaching classes in your area is a great way to build very loyal and targeted traffic to your site. You can offer your classes for free or you can charge a fee. Either way works very well. Encourage your students to use their social networks to tell their friends and followers about your website and then give them nifty free gifts as a thank you. The gifts should be things that they download from your site and always, always include a squeeze page where they must sign up for your newsletter to get the gift.
Speak with a newspaper editor in your area and tell them about your expertise. Inquire as to if their readers might benefit from a column from you on a weekly basis. Take the time to illustrate all the reasons why their readers will benefit from your experience. It will be easier to get accepted by smaller publications. If you live in a large city, look for smaller independent newspapers. You can call and ask for an appointment with the editor or you can mail, (sometimes email) in a query letter with an example of your writing. Read the newspaper you plan to submit to and be sure your writing will mesh with their newspaper style. If you submit your article through the mail or email, be sure to call in about a week and check up. Be polite and don't get upset if they reject you. They still might consider you for a future publication.
