If you own shares and want to sell them, you can also instruct the online brokerage to do so. Shares traded through an online broker are the same ones that are listed in the stock exchanges.

The online brokerage has opened trading in the stock market to many more people. The system has reduced the average commissions that one had to pay to traditional brokerage houses, making stock trading more affordable. Online trading has also provided current information about share values and made it possible for individuals to make the decision about which stocks to buy or sell.

Online brokerages provide other services to individuals who wish to trade online. In addition to the current value of shares, they also analyze markets and inform their customers about trends in order to guide investors in their choices.
