Online Ups And Offline Ups: A Line Between The Two
UPS or uninterrupted power supply is the need of every computer system
. It would take a blink of eyes to hamper all your important data or information. Even a small spike, surge, brownout or other fluctuation in the voltage requires few seconds to damage the computer systems power supply device, operating system corruption, data or information etc.
That is why UPS is known as backup device fighting strongly with all the electricity related issues. It provides a continuous power supply when a power failure occurs. It keeps the system on for 15-20 minutes allowing the user to save the running data. There are three types of UPS available as the servo stabilizer manufacturer is also providing a comprehensive range of UPS. These are Online, Offline and Line Interactive UPS. This article will show you a difference between online and offline UPS.
An off-line UPS remains idle until a power failure occurs, and then toggles from utility power to its own power source, almost immediately. An on-line UPS continuously powers the protected load from its reserves (usually lead-acid batteries or stored kinetic energy), at the same time refilling the reserves from the AC power.
In offline UPS, the inverter is attached in parallel and acts only to backup utility power. The first part in an off-line UPS is input electric surge protection, used to protect the load from those high-voltage spikes. The second component is battery that supplies the inverter with power, and third part is the inverter. This inverter takes the dc battery voltage to produce the ac voltage require to run your equipment.
In case of online UPS the inverter is attached in series between the ac input and the load. Power needed to supply to the equipment flows continuously through the inverter. An online UPS incorporates some of the same components as an off-line UPS with a few differences the one difference is a rectifier.
An online UPS also has input surge protection, inverter components, batteries, and a rectifier. The rectifier takes the input voltage and converts it from ac voltage to dc voltage to charge the battery and provide dc power to the inverter.
The purpose of both the UPS manufacturer and distribution transformer manufacturer is same that is to beat the electricity shortage and surges that are harmful for the expensive devices. UPSs back time is dependent of the voltage. High the voltage more time it can keep the device on by supplying stored power.
