A fork truck is used in many different businesses and operations the most common being building sites, warehouses, and distribution centres. They allow you to easily and quickly shift and maneuver large and heavy bulks of products from one location to another either unloading a truck or moving from one end of the site to another where the load is needed. There are many accident prone factors attached to a forktruck such as overloading the truck causing it to capsize, not operating the truck correctly causing it to breakdown or malfunction, running over a nearby person, or crashing into a wall or something else.

When driving a fork lift many factors need to be taken into account, even the smallest of things in a fork truck can cause injury because it is such a heavy and powerful machine. For example just the step of getting into the truck requires care and attention because you do not want to smack your head on the roof or side of the cage. Using the step carefully and being aware of your height you need to step into the cage and sit down in the chair slowly and in a controlled manner. A fork lift has handhold features which let the operator grab onto something to pull themselves into the fork truck and to guide them down when they are getting out. These handholds need to be wiped clean before used because if they are greasy or dusty the person can slip and seriously hurt themselves.

Before you begin driving the forktruck every time the horn must be sounded to allow people on site to know you are using the truck and your location. The fork lift should be driven at a slowish pace in the event that the operator needs to stop urgently. In a fork lift there are a few and known blind spots, these blind spots need to be determined by the operator before they begin to drive so they are aware of them.
