Introduction for integer operations:
Introduction for integer operations:
The integers are created by whole numbers, but integers include non-negative numbers but fractions are not a part of integers. The integer includes non-negative, negative numbers like (-3,-2,-1, 0, 1, 2, 3). For example, 62, 8, and 876 are integers; 1.6 and 1 are not integers. The fundamental Integer operations are like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In this article we shall discuss about fundamental operations of integers.
Operations with Integers
The fundamental operations with integers are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Addition: An addition operation is one of the fundamental operations of integer. Addition of integers is a moving of units right or left. The first number in the expression is starting point. Add a positive integer; you move that many units right. Adding a negative integer, move the many units left.
Subtraction: Subtraction and addition are inverse operations. For every addition there are two Subtraction facts.
For example,
2 + 8 = 10 is an addition fact. From this, we can state two related subtraction facts. They are
10 8 = 2 and 10 2 = 8.
Multiply operation: The multiplication is the process of repeated addition of a same number for more number of times. An operation of scaling one number by another is called multiplication. Multiply denoted by the symbol or *. Elementary school students use the symbol for multiplication. Multiplication is inverse process of division.
Divide operation: Division is the process of repeated subtraction on same number for more number of times or equal distribution of number. Division is the inverse operation of multiplication.
Dividend = divisor quotient + remainder
Rules for Integer Operations
Rule for addition operations:
When signs are the same keep the sign and add the numbers For example 3 + 4 = 7
(-9) + (-4) = -13
When signs are different keep the sign of the number that is farthest from 0. Subtract bigger number from smaller number
For example, 5 + (-6) means you start at 5, and you move 6 units to the left. -9 + 5 means you start at -9, and move 5 units to the right.
Rule for subtraction operations
Change the subtraction sign to an addition sign
Change the sign of the second number
Rule for Multiply/Divide operations
An even number of negative signs then the answer will be POSITIVE
An odd number of negative signs then the answer will be NEGATIVE
