You know that porn for women has become main stream when Oprah Winfrey covers the topic. It has been reported that Americans spend up to 10 billion dollars a year on porn and apparently men aren't the only ones contributing to this total. According to Oprah, 1 in 3 consumers of online porn in the United States is a woman.

To get the "skinny" on this growing trend, Oprah sent reporter Lisa Ling to investigate adult film sets and to speak to industry insiders. What Lisa found was an actual shift in the way porn is being created today with films being produced specifically by women for women. One of the people Lisa spoke to was Steve Hirsch who is the CEO of Vivid Entertainment, the world's largest adult film studio. He claims that 30 to 40 percent of the porn market are women. His studios began playing to that market by creating films that have more foreplay and story lines which seem to appeal more to women.

Oprah herself sat down with Jenna Jameson, one of the most famous porn stars to date, for some one on one talk about the porn industry. Jenna has starred in over 100 adults films and one of her titles is the bestselling adult DVD of all time. Her book "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale" spent weeks on the New York Times best seller list. During her tour to promote the book, Jenna says she began to notice more and more of the members in the audience were women and that they used her book as an opportunity to open up and talk about the details of their sex lives. When Oprah asks how Jenna will explain her adult film career to her sons one day, Jenna replies that she isn't sure what she'll say, but wants them to know how much she loves them.

Although the numbers indicate that millions of women are using erotica for women and porn to spice up their sex lives, chances are you won't get many of them to admit to it.
